When setting up your idle sequences and screen playlists, proper content placement is crucial for ensuring users can easily interact with your HootBoard kiosk. This guide will help you optimize your content layout for the best user experience.
Important: Choose Content That Won't Hide the "Tap to Start" Button
Be mindful of bright or busy content in your images and videos. The "Tap to Start" button overlays on top of your content at the bottom of the screen, and certain types of content can make it invisible to users.
Why This Matters
- The "Tap to Start" button appears overlaid at the bottom of your content when the kiosk is idle
- This button uses white text and a white finger icon for visibility
- Bright, white, or busy content in the bottom area can hide the button from users
- A hidden start button means fewer user interactions and reduced engagement
Content Selection Guidelines
✅ DO:
- Choose images and videos with darker or contrasting backgrounds in the bottom area
- Use content where the bottom portion won't compete with white text
- Test your content on the actual kiosk to ensure the "Tap to Start" button remains clearly visible
- Select images with good contrast between light and dark areas
❌ DON'T:
- Use very bright, white, or light-colored images that extend to the bottom
- Choose content with busy patterns or text in the bottom area that could obscure the button
- Select images where the bottom portion is too bright or visually distracting
- Use content that blends with or camouflages the white button text and icon
